The pumpkin is one of the five most cultivated species of squash in any warm or temperate country on the planet. It was the Portuguese who, in the 15th century, imported this large ribbed fruit from the New World to Europe.
If we are used to finding round pumpkins with orange peel in French shelves, know that there are also elongated, cubic, green or white ones. All contain a orange flesh with a mild flavor, much tastier than that of pumpkin with which it is often confused.
A classic of fall soups, pumpkin also goes very well in recipes for starters, gratins or even desserts.

The pumpkin, unknown in Europe before the 20th century
It was not until the 1950s to see the first pumpkin garnish the French stalls. Developed from squash introduced to Asia by the Portuguese, the pumpkin is believed to be native to the Japanese island of Hokkaido. It owes its name to the flavor of its yellow flesh reminiscent of the chestnut.
Very recognizable by its shape similar to a large pear, the pumpkin most often has a beautiful brick red color. Some specimens can also be pink, orange, or green.
It is also consumed for a longer period than its cousin since you can find pumpkins for sale until March.
